The Other October 9 Election

Ben Heraghty, a good friend of mine from Boston days, has a terrific piece in the Canberra Times on tomorrow’s election in Afghanistan. Amidst the horsetrading and jostling of the past few weeks, it’s worth occasionally being reminded of how darn lucky we are to not have bombs in polling places, but also heartening to know that Afghanistan is slowly moving in the right direction.

Also, while Ben notes in passing the Afghan taste for cricket, he modestly omits to mention that earlier this year, he arranged for a donation of cricket equipment by Cricket NSW to Kabul’s main orphanage.
