In terms of exchanging ideas, blogging is clearly the way of the future. But the way of the present – in Australia at least – is newspaper opinion pieces (aka op-eds). A couple of weeks ago, I ran a session in Melbourne on opinion piece writing for six terrific OzProspect fellows (one of the fellows, Daniel Donahoo, had articles in both the SMH and Age today… though I hasten to add that I can take no credit for that).
In an attempt to demystify opinion piece writing, and spawn greater diversity on our newspaper opinion pages, I’ve subsequently put together some notes on writing and placing opinion pieces. I hope they’re of use.
