My thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the London disaster. Like many Aussies, I lived in the city for a while (for a while, I changed trains each day at Russell Square), so immediately got on email last night and started contacting friends. All were ok, but affected in some way or another by the blasts.

I was glad to see the G8 meetings continue, with Blair flying back to Scotland after his briefing. The 37+ deaths (and many more injuries) in London are horrendous. But the situation now seems under control, and with 10,000 Africans dying daily from AIDS, TB and Malaria, it would have been a mistake to cancel the meetings and delay the chance of doing something big to tackle third world poverty.
