My interest piqued by the extremist-monitoring work of the Southern Poverty Law Center in the US, I went for a squiz on Google Australia, looking for racial epithets, neo-Nazi phrases, and the famously fake "Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion":
It doesn’t take long to turn them up. Just in case you thought e-racism didn’t exist in the land of the fair go, here’s a few sites that’ll make you change your mind. I’ve put asterisks in front of them so the hyperlinks don’t work (I didn’t really want to raise their Google ranking).
- *http://www.missionislam.com/nwo/protocols.htm (not .au, but comes up on Google as an Australian site)
- *http://islandgrove.qldwide.net.au/should_black_and_white_people_marry.html (you can imagine their answer!)
I’m sure there’s plenty more out there than my 5 minutes of searching revealed. Putting together a more comprehensive accounting of Australian racism online would be a useful exercise.
