Getting our 7 cents worth

Good news for Australian public diplomacy today, with the government selecting the ABC as the operator of TV broadcasting in Asia from 2006-2011. Perhaps the government will now look at a more ambitious approach to public diplomacy efforts. In the Diplomat recently, Macgregor Duncan, David Madden and I argued that Australia should team the ABC TV service in Asia with the BBC and the Canadian Broadcasting Service to create a larger service for the developing world.

    Having actually watched the ABC-Asia channel, I think combining with BBC and CBC is a great idea. By simply rebroadcasting those services the ABC-Asia would improve dramatically. Mind you, simply broadcasting the test pattern would be an improvement.
