According to the NYT, Barack Obama is now countenancing a run for President in 2008. If it turned out to be Obama vs McCain, that would be a race worth moving to the US to watch.

Obama just released another book too. Rather than a “this is my life” book it apparently is more one on political philosophy of government policy.
Andrew, Obama is a very impressive guy but more likely to be positioning himself for the Democratic VP nomination this time around. One of the reasons Obama has had such a dream run is that he is in favor of basically everything that most sensible people agree with and has yet to really take on anything unpopular as a Senator.
Given that Lieberman is destroying Lamont in the polls at the moment in CT running as an Independent, one story that keeps popping up in the US in recent times is that if McCain fails to get the nomination, you could see a McCain/Lieberman Unity ticket. Logic being that this ticket gets the moderate republican vote+centrist democrat+independent. Any thoughts on that?
Don’t see a Obama V McCain race. The media would love it just like if Hillary ran.
I do wonder though when was the last time that the early favourites won the primaries and became Presidential candidates for either party. Not knowing the history of the Dems or Republicans it would be interesting.
Oz, the really interesting point about 2008 is that I think it is the first time since 1952 that the Whitehouse is not providing a Presidential candidate given that Cheney is a non-starter. I feel that the best ticket for the Republicans is McCain/Rice and for the Democrats Gore/Richardson.
