Baby Jihad

On the topic of baby names, commenter Russell draws my attention to a new list of popular names, this time from Western Australia. I couldn’t help noticing the fact that the boys’ list begins:

  1. Jack
  2. Thomas

Incidentally, my wife and I have now chosen baby names. Bubs is due in a little under a month, so all will be revealed soon. Thanks to those who proffered advice; we appreciated the serious advice, and enjoyed the off-the-wall suggestions. If it’s a girl, perhaps we’ll tell the grandparents that we’ve decided to call her Meadow Leigh.

    Meadow Leigh is good.
Incidently I went to school with a girl called Poppy Meadows.

  2. backroom girl says:

According to that website, Meadow has been in the top 1000 for girls since 2003

  3. Andrew Leigh says:

Kevin, I hadn’t seen that site – thanks, we both had fun with it.

Actually, when you mention the Top 1000, if you are referring to the stats in the United States, the name Meadow has been in the Top 1000 since 2001. See:

I think the rise in popularity for Meadow is because it is the name of Tony Soprano’s daughter, in the TV show The Sopranos.

Still, it’s a really nice name!
