Prioritization, Virginia-Style

From the New York Times comes two reports on how Virginia is responding to the Virginia Tech shooting. A university report has made some heavy-hitting recommendations, including:

¶Replacing the hardware on all perimeter doors of buildings. …
¶Installing locks on the inside of classroom doors.

Meanwhile, what has the government been doing?

the State Legislature rejected a proposal to close the egregious loophole by which “private” (i.e. unlicensed) dealers sell weapons at weekend gun shows free of the federal obligation to conduct background checks on buyers. More than a quarter of the dealers have been found selling guns as easily as midway trinkets.

  1. Ed says:

Unfortunately, the Virginia legislature is still in the hands of the Republican party, despite the fact that Virginia has a Democratic governor. Republicans will almost never restrict gun “rights”.
